We’re great advocates of the use of email as a marketing channel. However we don’t condone the sending of unsolicited commercial email (UCE) or spam.
GUMPTION anti-spam policy

We take any reports of customers abusing the SendaNewsletter service extremely seriously. When using SendaNewsletter you must only include opted in contacts on your mailing lists and agree to take contacts off your lists upon request.

Sticking to the following guidelines will help you make sure you won’t send spam unintentionally.

    Basic rules

All emails sent through SendaNewsletter must be opt-in communications. This means that all recipients must either have a pre-existing relationship with you or have supplied you with their email address with the intention of receive marketing material.

An opt-out clause is included on all emails sent through SendaNewsletter to allow recipients to unsubscribe easily. When recipients opt you must remove them from the relevant mailing list within 10 days.

You may be asked to show proof of the opt-in nature of your lists.

    Guidance

You can invite potential new recipients to opt in, for example through an online subscription form. If someone gives you their business card or contacts you by email, it’s a good idea to ask them if they’d be happy to receive email marketing from you.

If you’re based in the UK and are unsure of which ways of collecting new contacts for your mailing list are legal, the Information Commissioner’s Office can help. See www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk.

    Abuse of this policy

• stick rigidly to the rules and guidelines

• treat any complaints about spam seriously

• take people who unsubscribe off the list immediately.

    Further guidelines

1) You may be sending spam if…

• your list includes contacts not known to you personally who haven’t given you their permission to send them marketing material by email

• the originating address on your emailers is not a valid, working address

• the subject line of your emailers contains false or misleading information

• you send people emailers after they’ve opted out.

For more information on avoiding spamming, visit www.mail-abuse.com.

2) Buying email lists is risky and we don’t recommend it. A bad list could devastate your business.

However, if you are considering purchasing a list, here are some things to consider:

• How old is the list?

• Has it been properly maintained, including removing unsubscribes?

• Is it permission-based?

• When was the list last used for an email campaign?

• Are the contacts qualified and appropriate for your needs?

3) Emails you send through SendaNewsletter must contain valid contact information in the signature, including a working telephone number and email address. Your "reply to" and "from" email addresses must also be working email addresses.
